Back to school hectic-ness has finally started to calm. Kids are well into their new classes and should have all the necessities they need to succeed. For our rental customers, this also means making sure you have the instrument and all the supplies for proper care. Did we remember the cleaning supplies to get all that breakfast, lunch and dinner out of your instrument? Do we have enough reeds? Is the book we picked up the one the teacher recommended this year? Have we talked about lessons?
Lessons? Lessons. Was that not on the “To-do” list? Let me explain the importance of lessons outside the classroom.
In most cases, the music classes at school are only for a short period of time once a week and within a group setting. Sometimes, the players are even taken out of class in order to have their weekly lesson. By the time they learn how to put their instrument together and warm up, it’s time to pack up and go back to class. There are also schools that do not even have a classroom for music, but on a cart. While this is a good introduction to music, some students who really like the instrument can feel like they are falling behind. This is where private lessons can help!
Music and Arts is the nation’s largest lesson provider, giving over a million lessons every year. All of our teachers hold degrees in their instrument and have been teaching for a long time, making our program pretty special. Some of them are actually from local schools, including Dumont, Bloomfield, Fort Lee, and Irvington. Our teachers are very customizable and can teach to a variety of learning styles, making each lesson goal specifically based on the student. Looking to audition for All-State or Regions? We can help! We have instructors who have judged these auditions and know the areas on which to concentrate. Jazz band auditions? Absolutely! Cramming for ABRSM? Our piano instructors have been teaching for an extensive period of time and can definitely tackle this curriculum if you prefer. Trying to become the next Santana? Our guitar instructors have more than just gigging experience – they can go into the theory behind the music as well.
At the South Paramus location, we are extremely picky when it comes to our teachers. All of them have gone through a thorough background check and intense interview process, as well as demonstrations. Only the best will do when it comes to teaching your child an instrument they might play for the rest of their lives. We take pride in the work we do and will do everything we can to ensure the player learns and loves to play.
