Performance Experience: I perform with the 246th Army Band, South Carolina Brass Band and freelance in the Columbia area. While in college, I performed with the Wind Ensemble, Left Bank Big Band, Carolina Band, and numerous chamber groups.

Teaching Experience: 6+ years teaching students of all ages.

Teaching Philosophy: I believe in encouraging my students to explore and experiment, because the best musicians are constantly curious and asking questions. I believe that the best way to learn music is to listen to music, so I demonstrate and model for my students as often as possible. Finally, I believe that through studying music, my students will also develop important non-musical skills such as: discipline, teamwork, how to deal with failure, and critical thinking.

James Subosits is a passionate trombonist, pianist, arranger, and educator based in Columbia, SC. He has a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of South Carolina, and plays with the 246th Army Band in Eastover, SC and the South Carolina Brass Band.

He has been teaching low brass students for 6 years to students of all ages and ability levels. His students have gone on to play in region bands, all-state bands & orchestras, top 3 drum corps, and major in music in college.

When he’s not playing music, he’s probably teaching music. If he’s not teaching music, then he’s probably listening to music. If he’s not listening to music, it’s likely that he’s arranging music. If he’s not doing that, you might catch him writing about himself in the third person.
