Performance Experience: I have performed and recorded as a freelance guitarist and bassist for the past 18 years, playing locally as well as touring throughout the US and Europe. I've played festivals such as South By Southwest (Austin), Lollapalooza (Chicago), and Primavera Club (Barcelona and Madrid). I enjoy playing a variety of styles such as jazz, indie rock, and country.
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching private lessons and group classes for 15 years. I also worked as a community educator and tour guide at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queens, New York.
Teaching Philosophy: It’s all about connecting with the music! We’ll learn how to listen deeply, how to analyze and break the music down into simple pieces, and how to form good practice habits. Most importantly, we’ll find what inspires us - that’ll make everything easy and fun.

Get to know Brett Jones

Hey y’all, it’s Brett! I’m a guitarist, songwriter, and teacher. I love exploring the endless possibilities of music. Whether listening, studying, composing, improvising, recording, or teaching, there is always something fresh and exciting to discover. I enjoy sharing this enthusiasm and curiosity with my students. 


I was born and raised here in Richmond, and I always enjoyed messing around on guitar, piano, and drums growing up. After studying biology at UVA and working in a lab for a couple years, I began to perform and teach music full-time. Since then I’ve lived and played music in Charlottesville, New York, Sao Paulo, and Richmond. I’ve played on a bunch of record and toured throughout the US and Europe. These days I play bass in the band Gold Connections, write songs and play guitar in my project Goodnight Daniel, and work as a freelance guitarist.
