About Me

Hello! I'm a percussionist based in Terryville, CT. I teach band, orchestra, and music technology in a public school district and graduated from the University of Hartford's The Hartt School and the University's Honors Program. I have performed in a wide variety of ensembles such as wind ensembles, orchestras, percussion ensembles, marching bands, chamber groups, and steel bands.

My teaching career includes several marching bands, The Hartt School Community Division's youth ensembles, the 2018 Southern Middle School Regional Band, many internships at local schools, and more. I have performed in venues across CT, earned the Al Lepak Award in 2018, and was named the WVIA Artist of the Week in 2014.

My style of teaching focuses on the fundamentals of percussion playing while also developing a love of music from all genres. Rudimental and orchestral drumming, jazz, pop, rock, Latin, commercial media, world music, and more all are incorporated to give students a full understanding of the music around us.

Students can perform on drum set, snare drum, bells, auxiliary percussion, and more. In addition, music theory and history are learned along the way and one's musicality will grow as lessons continue. Finally, students will be able to maintain their equipment and learn how to get a wide range of sounds using their sticks and mallets.

Students are welcome to bring in their own music or books or I can recommend some. Playing along with audio tracks or live instruments is encouraged. Recitals and collaboration across teachers is absolutely possible for performance opportunities.

Lessons can take place in half hour or hour increments. Ben teaches live on Tuesday afternoons & evenings, online on Friday afternoons, and online all-day on Saturday. If you're interested, please contact Southington Music & Arts to set up a meet and greet or sign up!
