About Albert Allenback
Get to know Albert Allenback
Hi, I’m Albert, a Grammy-nominated saxophonist, flautist, and record producer (and maybe your favorite teacher ever, who knows?) My music career began 20 years ago when I played my first gig for money at the age of fourteen. Performing, writing, recording, and teaching music has been my full-time job ever since. I want to teach anyone who would like to learn all about the feelings of joy, stability, and meaning that are created by playing an instrument.
Some highlights from my career include: a 10-year tenure with famed New Orleans funk and soul outfit Tank and the Bangas; losing a Grammy to Billie Eilish; and recording flute for Jon Batiste’s Grammy-winning album WE ARE. Other stuff I’m proud of includes:
- Winning NPR Tiny Desk Contest in 2017
- Performing at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, and lots of other big music festivals
- Recording with and for Robert Glasper, Moonchild, Lalah Hathaway, Hasizzle, Netflix, The Walt Disney Company, Gimlet Podcasts and more
I can hear you thinking, “Alright, cool dude, we get it, nice career...but can you actually teach?” Yes! As I toured the world from 2014 to 2024, I conducted and participated in dozens of masterclasses at the university, high school, and middle school level. I’ve taught everything from music production in London to saxophone in Cuba. I have recently been teaching saxophone and New Orleans brass band tunes to large groups of students K - 2nd grade, and it’s been a blast.
All that said, I truly look forward to teaching AND learning from you!
