Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Flute Performance and Music Composition at Texas Wesleyan University
Performance Experience: A wide variety of concerts and contests from grade school up until now such as full band and chamber concerts, solo and ensemble contests, marching band performances, and jazz concerts. I also performed a junior recital at Texas Wesleyan and played in the annual President's Honors Concerts in 2022 and 2023.
Teaching Experience: About 2 years of experience teaching new band students about flute technique and music theory as well as helping and collaborating with fellow musicians and composers.
Teaching Philosophy: The process of learning music should cover the necessary techniques and concepts of the instrument being taught, but more importantly should be an enjoyable personalized experience depending on the musician and what they enjoy learning more about/what benefits them the most.
Get to know Alex Garcia
I have been involved with music ever since I was in 6th grade and played flute throughout middle and high school in both concert band and marching band settings. I graduated from Summit High School in 2020 and went on to attend Texas Wesleyan University majoring in music with concentrations in flute/piccolo performance and music composition. At Texas Wesleyan, I am involved in both the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble and am currently taking lessons to further my study in flute, piano, composition, and electric guitar. I am fortunate enough to get many performance opportunities through my college and I enjoy using the experience I've gained to help other musicians grow and to love what they do!
