About Alex Tavares

Alexandro Tavares is a professional Classical Trumpeter. Who is currently the Principal Trumpet player for the NOVA Symphony Orchestra, gigs with Annandale Brass, and is also a Freelance Musician. Studying under John Wright, Andrew Wilson, and Dennis Edelbrock, along with pedagogy classes at GMU, he's learned many ways to improve students and has developed his own system building or reinforcing fundamentals, while maintaining a healthy relationship with the instrument.

Alex grew up in the area attending Beville MS, and Hylton HS. High School is where I fell in love with music, mainly trumpet repertoire, listening to the jazz recordings of the Louis Armstrong and then the powerful mariachi sound of Rafael Mendez. These recordings led me to the great Maurice Andres and his recording of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, then to Timofei Dokschitzer's recording of the Hummel trumpet concerto, where I started to fall in love with classical. Where I find my passion in music is pure raw emotion, like Jupiter by Holst, has such a hopeful, inspiring, moving feeling, to the raw culmination of pompousness and grandiose as the Great Gate of Kiev at the end of Pictures at an Exhibition. Music should always be emotion filled and fun to perform.
