Get to know Ali Dettmer
Ali Dettmer is an active performer and educator dedicated to her craft in classical music. She currently holds the position of Second Flute with the Lima Symphony Orchestra and recently attained the position of Piccolo/Third Flute with the Fredericksburg Symphony Orchestra. She also maintains a private studio and freelances in her home base of Richmond, VA. She has been a prize winner of several competitions, winning first prize in the 2020 Kentucky Flute Society Young Artist’s Competition and third prize in the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia Young Artist’s Competition. She has been a featured soloist with the Concordia University Orchestra and the City of Fairfax Band, performing the solo parts from J.S. Bach’s Suite in B Minor and Franz Doppler’s Hungarian Fantasie, respectively.
Ali received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Flute Performance from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018 with college and university honors. While there, Ali also completed certification for music education in grades K-12 and received the Elizabeth Graf scholarship for her excellence in the field. Upon finishing her student teaching semester, she pursued and received a Master's of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She has previously served as a flute teaching faculty member of the Judith Lapple Summer Woodwind Camp and Belleville High School. She currently enjoys loves teaching students of all ages and levels in the Richmond, VA area in several wind instruments.
