      Education: Western Kentucky University 2017-2021 (Bachelor’s in Piano Performance and Chinese, English Literature Minor)
      Performance Experience: I started learning piano when I was five years old, and began practicing seriously when I was in middle school in the hopes of learning some of my favorite songs (particularly from video games). In my studies at Western, my favorite performing experiences have been with chamber ensembles, with performing Prokofiev’s third sonata for my senior recital a close second favorite. Currently, I accompany several pre-college and undergraduate students for their recitals and juries.
      Teaching Experience: I have studied pedagogy under Dr. Donald Speer, and just this past year I have begun working with WKU’s String Institute, coaching and accompanying young string musicians.
      Teaching Philosophy: I believe that music is for everyone, and that it doesn’t have to be impossibly daunting or overwhelming. In my piano studio, any genre is welcome and celebrated! There are many different methods I use to teach students, whether that be a more hands-on approach like clapping rhythm games and note learning, or a more theoretical approach with music visuals and classical theory

      Get to know Aliza Norman

      Hello! I am very excited to be teaching at Music and Arts! I have been playing piano for over fifteen years and in December of 2021, I graduated Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance, Chinese, along with an English Literature minor. Throughout my college career, I have accompanied numerous ensembles–choirs, orchestras, bands, and chamber music–and currently, I accompany several WKU music students, particularly those within the string’s program. Some of my favorite hobbies include composing, languages, painting portraits (usually of animals), reading, and playing chess. I hope to teach you soon!
