About Anthony Peterson
Get to know Anthony Peterson
Anthony Peterson is a multi-instrumentalist whose career has spanned the better part of his life. He began playing piano at a young age under the tutelage of the talented classical pianist Irina Gorin, whose talent expends past virtuosic playing to a high level of pedagogical prowess.
Anthony was afforded many opportunities to perform and compete, including a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York at the age of 8, as a result of a 2nd place award in his division in the World Piano Competition. His musical journey continued with his growing interest in other contemporary musical genres, such as classic rock, hip hop, jazz, etc. This led Anthony to experiment with the drum set, and soon after he decided to concentrate his efforts in percussion, which he continued to do throughout high school and college.
Since graduating, Anthony has continued teaching private lessons in addition to being a performing drummer and pianist in the DFW area. He has played drums with several groups, opening for artists like JD Simo, Black Joe Lewis, and Red Shahan among others.
Anthony’s teaching style emphasizes a connection to music broadly, using the instrument the student is studying as a tool to develop their unique musical voice. This process may include learning to read music, as well as composition, improvisation, ear training, and other facets of musical study. His goal is to foster a curiosity that motivates the student to pursue their own musical interests, the same curiosity that grows within him everyday.
