About Bart Gilliland

I've been teaching in the St Louis area for over 30 years. Attended Webster University where I studied under Dan Rubright, Steve Schenkle and Kim Portnoy. Currently performing with my band: New Crime Theatre. And my acoustic duo: Doubletap, featuring the incredible voice of Margi Pennington. Have performing professionally as well for over 30 years with several different projects. Ranging from all original music to, funk, dance, rock, blues and jazz. From the first lesson, I start building a personalized plan for for each student reach their goals. It may be composing music, focusing on live performance, or maybe playing in their church or with friends. No matter what the goal is, my students will have a strong grasp of the fundamentals: sight reading, chord vocabulary, improvisational abilities, and ear training. And if they like, a strong understanding of the tech behind home recording as well as the gear involved with live performance. Learning correctly with an instructor, and gaining a firm grasp of the skills involved can bring a lifetime of enjoyment.
