Music Teacher, Professional
Location: Durham, NC
Education: Bachelor of Music
Performance Experience: I have been performing in front of people fairly regularly since I was in my high school Jazz band. In college, I have played for various school events and fundraisers with the ensembles I have been a part of. I was also able to perform at Lincoln Center with the NCCU big band before COVID-19 started.
Teaching Experience: I have taught guitar since I was in high school both in the context of 1-on-1 lessons and summer camps. I have also recently worked virtually with the New York City Guitar School.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe that when teaching it is important to start by building a strong foundation in technique. It is important to build confidence in students by teaching them to play simple songs cleanly and accurately before jumping into more difficult and possibly overwhelming topics like sight reading and music theory. I also think it is important for a teacher to listen to their students' feedback and plan their lessons to help the students meet their musical goals.
