Get to know Brandon Wicks
Brandon is a lifelong musician and passionate educator with over 39 years of playing experience. His musical journey began on cello at age 10, followed by tenor saxophone at 12, which sparked a deep and lasting love for music. He later earned a degree in Jazz Studies/Performance, where he developed a strong foundation in music theory, composition, and live performance.
Throughout his career, Brandon has performed in a wide range of settings, from cafés and private events to outdoor festivals, clubs, concert halls, and stadiums. After taking a long break from the saxophone, he recently returned with a renewed focus and a more thoughtful, disciplined approach to learning and musicianship.
In 2008, Brandon began playing bass guitar, drawn to its versatility and central role across many genres. He primarily plays six-string fretted and fretless bass, along with upright bass, and is also fluent on four- and five-string basses. His style is influenced by classic ’70s funk, classic and modern jazz, neo-soul, R&B, as well as ’70s/’80s pop, metal, and alternative music.
Brandon has performed extensively in the Seattle music scene at small to mid-sized venues, including Comet Tavern, The Highdive, Blue Moon Tavern, Skylark Café & Pub, Beacon Hill, Jefferson Park Grand Opening Festival, and the MoveOn Rally at Cal Anderson Park.
As an instructor, Brandon specializes in helping students find their individual learning pathway. His teaching approach is tailored, supportive, and goal-focused—designed to help each student build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and grow as a musician.
