Performance Experience:
Candy has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, Dayton Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and the South Carolina Symphony. She served as the Official Bugler for Churchill Downs. She currently plays with the Carl Payne Big Band, The Armed Forces Veterans Band, Columbia Community Concert Band and subs with the Lake Murray Symphony. She is the manager and lead Flugelhorn for Die Lustigen Musikanten.
Teaching Experience:
Her teaching career began when she was a senior in High School and she taught at a small music store. She went on to teach for the University of Louisville Prep Department, Augusta State Prep Department, and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
Get to know Candy True
Candy True teaches trumpet for all levels, from beginner through advanced, and enjoys helping students build strong technique while exploring a variety of styles including classical and jazz, with a specialty in jazz lead playing. Her lessons begin with understanding each student’s strengths and areas for growth, then developing those skills through focused, practical exercises. She creates a structured, encouraging environment where students can progress confidently toward their personal goals and performance readiness. Candy holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Louisville and a Doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
