Performance Experience: Candy has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, Dayton Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and the South Carolina Symphony. She served as the Official Bugler for Churchill Downs. She currently plays with the Carl Payne Big Band, The Armed Forces Veterans Band, Columbia Community Concert Band and subs with the Lake Murray Symphony. She is the manager and lead Flugelhorn for Die Lustigen Musikanten.

Teaching Experience: Her teaching career began when she was a senior in High School and she taught at a small music store. She went on to teach for the University of Louisville Prep Department, Augusta State Prep Department, and the University of South Carolina Aiken.

Candy True is a trumpet teacher who works with beginner to advanced students, helping each musician build confidence through strong fundamentals and personalized instruction. She teaches all musical genres and introduces improvisation while emphasizing tone production, articulation, flexibility, sight reading, and overall musicianship. Candy believes students learn best when they are challenged appropriately and given music they genuinely enjoy playing, creating lessons that are tailored to each individual’s goals and abilities. Whether preparing for recitals, auditions, college programs, military bands, or personal growth, students receive focused guidance every step of the way. Candy holds degrees in Music Performance, Music Education, and a Doctor of Musical Arts, and has performed with major orchestras and served as a member of the U.S. Army Band.
