Education: Bachelor of Music Performance & Composition, (University of the Arts), Bachelor of Music Education (Chestnut Hill College), Studied at the Piping Centre in Glasgow Scotland with Angus MacDonald, MBE (Pipe Major Scots Guards 1965-74, Queen’s piper 1967-68), Master Classes & Seminars under Paddy Keenan, Eric Montbel, Jean-Pierre Rasle, Gianluca Zammarelli, and others.
Performance Experience: NBC’s “Mrs. Davis” Charlie’s pipes are heard episode #3. Charlie was designated a Master Folk Artist by the state of NJ and toured with ‘Rosa Tatuata’ ending at Richmond VA Folk Fest. Charlie has performed for President G.H. Bush, Rod Stewart, H.M. Queen Noor Regent of Jordan, and the Phillies. He’s been on USA broadcast networks, and on TV Finland.
Teaching Experience: Has 20 years of private instruction experience, teaches seminars & workshops at many traditional events (Lark Camp in Mendocino CA, The Pipers Gathering in VT, Upper Potomac Piper’s Weekend in WV), presents instrumental assemblies for K-12 schools (including Lower Merion SD, & Archdioceses of Philadelphia, Wilmington & Trenton), roving Music sub for Philadelphia School District in 1994.
Teaching Philosophy: Charlie’s foundation training in classical woodwind technique was given by Maurice Sailly, a graduate of Amiens Conservatory in France. Professor Sailly imparted the sheer enjoyment of playing music with beauty of tone to all his students, and it is this philosophy that has been the core of Charlie’s instructional methods.
