About Charlie

Charlie Rutan is a woodwind teacher who works with students of all ages and experience levels, teaching beginner flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, and bagpipes, as well as advanced oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and bagpipes. His lessons focus on instrumental technique, music reading, repertoire, improvisation, and ensemble skills while helping students build confidence and long-term enjoyment through music. Charlie tailors lessons to each student’s individual needs and interests, guiding them through school ensembles, auditions, recitals, performances, or personal musical goals. With experience teaching traditional woodwinds from around the world, he encourages students to explore a wide variety of musical styles and techniques. Charlie brings over 35 years of international performance experience, more than 20 years of teaching experience, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.
