She became full-time in Lawrence UFSD teaching 4-6 orchestra, elementary chorus, and grade 4 general music. She eventually left and worked for 3 years at the John F. Kennedy Middle School, in the Bethpage UFSD. She now teaches orchestra grades 7-8 in the Miller Place UFSD.
Teaching Philosophy: Music is a tool when developing intrapersonal life skills. By encouraging our students to explore music in a comfortable and supported manner, we are creating opportunities for early stages of self efficacy. In the classroom, we must cater to each of our students in order to teach effectively. Through instruction, music teachers can build foundations for self efficacy in the classroom. By encouraging self efficacy in the music classroom, you allow for an internal sense of student accomplishment.

    • Get to know Daria Gomez

Daria Gomez is a graduate of the Aaron Copland School of Music located on the CUNY Queens College campus in Flushing, Queens.  As a cellist, her primary focus is in string education; however, she is well versed in both upper and lower strings, vocal technique, and general music pedagogies.  Daria has received both Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Science, from the Aaron Copland School of Music with both degrees in Music Education.

She has been teaching privately beginning in 2017 to ages ranging from four to adulthood.  She taught strings, voice, piano, and percussion at the Long Island Musician’s Center in Bellmore, NY under the direction of Dr. Talonda Thomas.  Mrs. Gomez has also had the pleasure of working at multiple private music centers from the borough of Queens to Long Island.

Prior to her college career, Mrs. Gomez received the Robert E. Brase Award in 2017, the highest award in the Music and Arts Department from the Oceanside School District.  Since then, Daria has strived to put her best foot forward in the music education field and as an overall musician.  It was not until attending the Aaron Copland School of Music that in May of 2019 she received The Discimus ut Serviamus Award.  Though she is flattered by the recognition, her primary goal is to become an effective and exemplary music educator.

Daria became involved in her local National Association of Music Education (NAfME) chapter, and ran in the election to hold the year long position of secretary.  She then realized that she could be doing so much more for the future of music education.  Prior to graduation from the Aaron Copland School of Music and CUNY Queens College, Daria finished her two year position as New York State Collegiate President for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and National Association for Music Education (NAfME), working alongside NYSSMA President, Dr. David Brown, and Collegiate State Advisor, Dr. Keith Koster.  During her time as State Collegiate President, Mrs. Gomez presented at numerous conferences for professional development and led meetings on multiple occasions.  In attendance was the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) National President, Dr. Mackie Spradley.  Through this organization, Daria has worked closely with Dr. David Gaines, Dr. Keith Hodgson, Ms. Robin DeSantis, and Mr. Russell Faunce.  Daria has used her platform to speak on important topics through the Collegiate Corner Column in the School Music News.
