Get to know Darvin Harvey
Darvin Lavon Harvey is a native of North Augusta, SC. He received his education at South Carolina State University where he received is B.A. in Music Instrumental Performance in 2006. He was a member of the SCSU Marching 101 Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Concert Choir, and Gospel Choir. While attending SCSU he studied Euphonium with the late Dr. Matthew Simmons and Joey Celmer. He studied classical voice under Dr. Robert Grenier and Dr. Arthur Evans. He furthered his educational endeavors by attending the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where he studied with the late Dr. Dennis Askew on Euphonium and Brass Pedagogy. He received a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Performance in 2008. He is a member of the following service organizations: Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Pi Kappa Lamda Music Honor Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia of America, South Carolina Music Educators Association. He was formerly a member of the following community organizations: The Augusta Chorale (2010-2015) where he serves on the executive board as the secretary and tenor/bass section leader, The Augusta Choral Society (2010-2015) where he serves as a member of the Chorus Council and tenor section leader and is a founding member of the Augusta Men’s Chorus (2010-2015) where he serves as Secretary/Treasurer. Since moving to Charleston, he was a member of the Charleston Spiritual Ensemble and Gospel Choir. In 2016, he was apart of the ensemble cast of Porgy and Bess during the Spoleto Festival. He is currently employed by the Charleston County School District where he is the Band and Chorus Director at St. John's High School.
