      Education: MA SanDiego State, MA Rutgers Universtiy Jazz History and Research, MA Ethnomusicology University of Michigan.
      Performance Experience: Have worked with many notable jazz performers over extended periods, primarily organists Big John Patton, Jimmy McGriff. Have led various duos, trios and larger ensembles throughout the New Jersey area and Manhattan. Also performed with various cover pop bands.
      Teaching Experience: As a longtime player and educator, Baise has taught Jazz History at Princeton University and Ethnomusicology at Rutgers/Newark; and is author of “Post-Mainstream Standards” in “Jazz:the First Century” (Smithsonian, 2000).
      Teaching Philosophy: Baise is particularly interested with the fusion of all musics, East, West, high, low, and how these intersections are reflected in the many students coming to Music and Arts. Blending the pedagogy of guitar mechanics, ear training , music theory, and repertoire, the student can develop their self expression and in turn communicate joy to others!

      Dave Baise is a guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, and music theory teacher who works with beginner to advanced students, helping them develop strong fundamentals while exploring the music they love. His lessons combine technique, repertoire, improvisation, listening skills, and jamming in a supportive and engaging environment. Dave teaches a wide range of styles, including rock, jazz, and contemporary music, with a strong emphasis on understanding melody, harmony, rhythm, and how to apply them musically on an instrument. He believes lessons should balance a student’s goals with their musical development, leading to greater confidence, personal satisfaction, and performance opportunities. Dave holds master’s degrees in Performance and Jazz History, has taught at Princeton University, Rutgers University, and California State University, and is a member of the Society for Ethnomusicology.
