Performance Experience: I am currently the fiddler and vocalist in my band, Los Waukis Andinos, and we play folk music from the Andes region in South America. We've been playing together for 12 years at such venues as the Desert Botanical Garden and the Musical Instrument Museum. Prior to that, I have played in a variety of pop, rock, and country bands as a fiddler and guitarist.
Teaching Experience: I taught violin, guitar, ukulele, and bass guitar for a year and a half at Art Awakenings, a center for adults and children with disabilities.
Teaching Philosophy: As I work primarily with children and beginners, I try to tailor each session to the individual. I let the student work at their pace while still ensuring each lesson is challenging to them. I focus on strengths. This way, the student feels that they are invested in their own progress. And I try to keep it fun!
Get to know David Seleme
My name is David. I started taking private violin lessons at the age of 11 and played in the orchestra through junior high and high school. Later on, I took up electric guitar and left the violin for a few years before returning to it, playing country guitar and fiddle. I also love plating Irish and Scottish fiddle music. Currently, I am the fiddler in my own Latin American folk music group.
