Performance Experience: Messiah University: Powerhouse multi-instrumentalist, Seven 2023, Jazz Combo, Theater Pit Orchestra, United Voices of Praise (guitar), Worship Community, Guitar Ensemble, Coffeehouse. I gig for Pit Orchestras and Coffee shops as well.
Teaching Experience: I have 3 years of experience teaching guitar to private students. While in college, I worked with my guitar professor and created Guitar Theory forms suitable for Guitar Instruction and have experience teaching a beginner’s Guitar Class for the High School level.
Teaching Philosophy: I enjoy assessing the goals of each student and creating an individualized plan for each student that is meant to help them reach their goals. I have a heavy focus on the interests of the student and utilize my knowledge of technique, music theory, and ear training to help the student with whatever style of music they are interested in pursuing!

Hello! My name is Derek Shockley and I am one of the guitar instructors here at Music and Arts in Marlton, New Jersey. I graduated from Messiah University in May 2024 with a Bachelors of Science in Music Education with K-12 certfication. I am very passionate about guitar education and helping my students learn as best as I can. I am experienced in Jazz, Worship, Classic Rock, Funk, Gospel, and Indie/Lo-fi styles.
