Get to know Donald Parker
Will the real Don Parker please stand up?! This Don Parker has been teaching music for over 30 years in the Crofton, MD area, specializing in acoustic guitar, classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, and music theory instruction. From an early age, Don has been involved in many facets of the music industry; performing in and recording with, managing, and producing several local bands and musical projects. Don continued his formal music education while attending PGCC where he studied with Gary Kirkaby and Tom Manoco. After leaving PGCC, he then attended Bowie State University and further refined his music skills on a dual-track of Music Performance (with a focus in guitar) and Music Production. While attending Bowie State, Don studied under the tutelage of professors Marymal Holmes, Gilbert Pryor, Latonya Wrenn, and Tom Newman. In 2018, Don began teaching with The Lesson Studio at Music & Arts in Crofton after having spent much of the previous 15 years teaching guitar at S&S Music (formerly of Crofton) until the company closed its doors in 2016. Since joining Music & Arts, Don has been active in leading group guitar lessons and clinics, and in organizing student performances and recitals for his studio. Each winter, many of Don’s private students of various ages and ability levels come together to put on a concert as a group, ensuring that each student gets the opportunity to see how their individual efforts can align in a group setting; in essence, supporting the practical application of what they have learned throughout the year. Don’s vast musical experience allows him to offer lessons for a wide range of musical styles including classical, rock’n’roll, blues, folk, jazz, and pop. Whether you are brand new to the instrument or an advanced player, Don’s ability to cater the lesson to your needs will help you along your path to achieving your musical aspirations!
