Education:
Eduardo studied music composition and saxophone performance at Southern Methodist University, training in both classical and jazz contexts. During his time at the university, he also studied piano and has since self taught bass guitar (as well as some auxiliary instruments like the gamelan!). His composition studies were focused on applications for film and video games, composing music to be scored alongside visuals for viewers/players to enjoy.
Performance Experience:
During his time playing the saxophone, Eduardo has performed in classical wind/orchestra ensembles around the DFW area, as well as jazz and even rock concerts with local bands. He has also had many of his original works performed, including a saxophone sextet entitled "Orbit" with the Meadows Wind Ensemble.
Teaching Experience:
Eduardo has informally taught for years, but officially began providing private lessons in 2024.
Teaching Philosophy:
Eduardo believes that learning happens best when it's fun, and in the context of music means playing what you enjoy. Having learned in the unorthodox way of studying and performing video game music, he recognizes that learning what you love will take you far in understanding both your instrument and music as a whole.
Get to know Eduardo Rodriguez-Pina
Eduardo is a multi-instrumentalist who has been fascinated with music (specifically, video game music) for as long as he can remember. Exposed to many different genres over the years, his musical journey would begin with the saxophone at a young age, learning all he could through his instrument.
As he ventured into high school and university, he developed a love for writing music, creating his own works inspired by his idols like David Wise, Motoi Sakuraba, Toby Fox, and many others. Determined to mark his name among them, he has studied all there is to game and film scoring. He has travelled across the country and beyond in order to achieve his goal, attending game audio conferences and internships like the Screen Music Program in Italy, as well as studying world music abroad in Bali, Indonesia.
Since graduating, he has worked as a freelance composer and private instructor, publishing his works in both classical and scoring contexts across different platforms.
During his spare time, Eduardo likes to add/listen to his vinyl record collection, obsess over puzzles and board games, and of course play video games and listen to their scores.
