Get to know Erik Roland Johnson
At the early age of 13 Erik picked up his fathers Yamaha acoustic guitar and began to fiddle around with what heard on the radio, or in his household. His Father, Mother and sister could all sing or play an instrument of their liking and have impromptu jam sessions at their home. Erik also started learning how to sing classically by the third grade being in the school choir. However it wasn't until a later age that he started branching out to other areas of musical study when his parents bought him his first Gibson Les Paul Studio when he was 15 years old. From that point on Erik learned how to play bass, joined choir in High School where his School went on to compete and win in national competitions, not only singing in full choir but honor choir, men's quartet and was also a member of the All State and Regional choirs from freshman year on. In addition to singing Erik garnered a passion for guitar, bass, and drums and as soon as he could find some like mined individuals his first band Blue Orchid was formed. Its seemed like the path was clear for our budding musician and attending music school for college seemed like a no-brainer. Unfortunately tragedy struck and Erik was hit head on in an horrible accident just weeks after his 18th birthday rendering him to learn how to walk. Talk eat as well as play guitar and sing. During this recovery period Erik found he could learn music very quickly just by listening to a song off the radio and be playing the song within a matter of minutes.
After losing his window for music college Erik went on to study Broadcasting and Film and television once he had his degrees he went on to have a 25 year Career in television but he never lost his passion for his first love ...Music. During his college years Erik was in the northeast Regional Band Postal playing venues all across the northeast united states as a singer and guitarist the band would go on to release an ep and a full length album also gaining success by winning several battle of the bands and opening for national acts when they rolled through town. After Postal there was Downward Limit a progressive metal band that also played the northeast regional area as their lead singer playing shows in front of 1200 to 2000 people and winning the Hartford advocates best new metal band. The band would go on tour opening for National acts Breaking Benjamin and Fuel. When the latter band's singer departed Erik was asked to audition for Fuel only to lose to Chris Daughtry, but he pushed on. After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia for a producing Job at CNN/HLN. Erik then immersed himself in the Atlanta music scene playing guitar in the local original band Dimestore Saints and singing backup vocals. Erik is also an accomplished Irish music Crooner playing several Irish Pubs in Atlanta and Savannah playing the Irish songs he grew up with as a child. Recently Erik has turned his musical interests to Americana/alt country currently working on his first solo record for the genre. Erik is the recipient of the Harvard Book Award for outstanding musicianship in choir. Has won several battle of the bands, played showcases for record labels and in addition to Guitar Erik can play Piano, Trumpet, harmonica, bass guitar, and Banjo.
