Education:
Frederick’s training environments include the Eastman School and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, from where he acquired his BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance and Harpsichord studies. His principal teachers throughout his pre-collegiate and collegiate careers were Mack McCray, Timothy Bach and Laurette Goldberg (SFCM), and David Burge and Mark Lawson (E)
Teaching Philosophy:
Mr. Harris’ teaching philosophy mirrors his roots and upbringing received from his parents,
ultimately: Before you can change the Rules you must know them – having a knowledge of
how music comes together must begin with focused and ongoing development of the
fundamentals, as a growing foundation upon which a student is lead to discoveries of
themselves.

FREDERICK
HARRIS is a pianist and instructor new to the Washington, DC Metro area. A
native of San Francisco, CA, Mr. Harris relocated to the DMV in 2022, making
the region his new, permanent home. He has performed extensively as a concert and
jazz pianist, drummer/orchestral percussionist, vocal and instrumental coach,
music director/conductor and educator in his former S.F. Bay Area, nationally
and internationally. He has taught all age levels, primary through collegiate
and adult, and at several California institutions including Stanford University
and City College Of San Francisco. He also ran his own piano studio for over 30
years.
