About Heidi McCarthy
Get to know Heidi McCarthy
I knew by the age of three that I was destined to play the piano; I grew up in a rural town in Southern, NJ-surrounded by stillness and the beauty of nature- and was able to devote my childhood to the study of piano lessons. I accompanied my school choirs by the age of 12 years old and won the NJ teen arts competition with my choir in high school. I have been in a variety of band over the years and have been privileged to teach lessons to veterans through the Wounded Warrior Project. I enjoy teaching, composing, and improvising songs in natural settings. I studied classical guitar at MTSU with Dr. William Yelverton -and my hobbies include hiking, gardening, playing shows as a solo act in Nashville, TN or with bands, and working as a counselor for patients in recovery for substance use disorders. I designed an eight-week psychotherapy group class for preschoolers, parents and teachers, "Planting the Seeds of Ecological Development through Music, Art and Mindfulness' as an independent research project during graduate school at Vanderbilt University. I am most recently the proprietor of the Museum of Lost Art-inherited from my late father. I am the proud mother of a son who sings and plays the drums - and love spending time with him, and our family of fur babies!
