About Jami Hagood
Get to know Jami Hagood
Jami Hagood is a Richmond, Virginia native and a dedicated music educator and performer with extensive experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she concentrated in band and orchestra, performed two solo tuba recitals, and presented a lecture on the benefits and necessity of music education in our society. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree in Tuba Performance at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, continuing to develop as an educator, performer, and human being.
Throughout her career, Jami has taught elementary band, orchestra and choir, private lessons, marching band, and community music programs, helping hundreds of people develop strong musical foundations and a lifelong appreciation for music. She teaches a wide range of instruments, including brass, woodwinds, strings, piano, ukulele, and beginner voice, while specializing in low brass instruction. Jami believes every student can succeed with encouragement, strong fundamental technique, patience, and personalized instruction, and she strives to create a positive learning environment where students build confidence, develop strong musicianship, and enjoy making music.
As an active performer, Jami has performed throughout the East Coast, including Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida. She performs with several professional and community ensembles, including the Richmond Pops Band and Commonwealth Wind Ensemble, and has shared her passion for music internationally through performances and educational outreach in Cartagena, Colombia. Her recent Connecticut performance experiences include weddings in Milford, ensemble performances in Griswold, and a regular Sunday performance position at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford. Through her performance career, Jami continues to bring her passion for music to diverse audiences and communities.
Jami welcomes students of all ages and experience levels to explore their musical interests in a supportive and encouraging environment. Whether you are beginning your musical journey or continuing to develop your skills, lessons are designed to meet each student where they are and help them grow with confidence. She looks forward to sharing her love of music, frogs, and helping students discover the joy of creating something as wonderful as music ♫
