I am constantly adding new instruments to
my life. Doing so reminds me of the challenges beginning instrumentalists
face in developing their skills. I love the challenge of learning new
things, and the practice also grounds me. I bring skill, experience and
humility to my teaching.
My continuing artistic enrichment has included participation in workshops for vocal health and preservation, learning Highland Bagpipes, Ukulele, Celtic/Folk Fiddle, Didgeridoo - playing and Aboriginal Culture, Celtic music and Irish culture, Irish flute technique and tunes, and Bluegrass fiddling, to name a few of my current interests.
I recently retired from teaching instrumental music for 26 years, in various
school programs. I have taught privately and in small groups for 40 years, in woodwinds,
piano, strings, and brass.
I’ve performed as part of theatre productions on multiple woodwind
instruments, as well as, as an actor and singer, and as a soloist in community orchestras
and for weddings.
Some highlights:
New Orleans Symphony Chorus - New Orleans, Louisiana - alto/mezzo soprano
New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra - New Orleans, Louisiana - flute/piccolo
Jefferson Parish Arts Society - Metairie, Louisiana - actor/singer
VFW concert band - Metairie, Louisiana - flute/piccolo
I received my bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University, and my master’s in Woodwind Performance from Antioch University. For my thesis, I combined study in flute, piccolo, clarinet, soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, oboe, bassoon, single and double Native American flutes, Japanese shakuhachi, and Irish tin whistle.
