Get to know Jason Jackson
Jason Jackson is a Billboard top 20 R&B/smooth jazz saxophonist whose soulful, groove-driven sound has captivated audiences worldwide. Hailing from Wilmington, North Carolina, Jackson’s musical journey began under the tutelage of Leroy Harper Jr., a longtime saxophonist for James Brown. While still in high school, he honed his craft as part of the house band at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, opening for icons like Brian McKnight, Morris Day and the Time, and Michael McDonald. He later earned a degrees in jazz performance and music production from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Berklee College of Music respectively.
In 2011, Jackson joined the U.S. Navy as a musician, performing across Asia, including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Australia, with the Seventh Fleet Band in Yokosuka, Japan. His global experiences reinforced his belief in music as a universal language, shaping his musical mantra, “Groove Supersedes All.” During his service, he was honored with the National Medal of the Arts as well as the Colonel Finley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician Award.
Since launching his solo career in 2021, Jackson has collaborated with acclaimed producer Adam Hawley, releasing his debut EP, *Movin’ On* (2021), featuring the Billboard top 20 single “All The Way” with Julian Vaughn. His sophomore album, *All In* (2022), showcased collaborations with jazz luminaries like Eric Marienthal, Chieli Minucci, and Mr. Talkbox, blending smooth jazz with R&B flair. His third album, *Looking Up* (2024, MBF Entertainment), includes standout tracks like “Upside Down” with Rick Braun and “Daybreak” with Chieli Minucci, reflecting his optimistic and vibrant style. Based in Chesapeake, Virginia, Jackson continues to inspire with his infectious melodies and dynamic performances, earning praise from peers like Dave Koz and Adam Hawley as a rising star in contemporary jazz.
