Get to know Jeff Fleming
Jeff’s musical background began at an early age. He had learned to read music and played trumpet when he was in third grade, eventually taking piano lessons at twelve years old from a music professor who taught at UMD and gave private lessons at her home nearby. After joining his first band in jr. high school, playing his Wurlitzer electric piano, he wanted to learn guitar because it looked cooler than sitting behind his piano.
Eventually at 16, he decided to study guitar and his parents got him lessons at Sophocles Pappas’ guitar studio in Washington DC. learning contemporary plectrum style guitar, including jazz standards and modern rock.
After that, he studied classical guitar for 2 years with Anais Bryant, himself a student of Andre Segovia.
Jeff entered a music education program at Howard Community College and continued his music education at Montgomery College in Rockville Md.
Jeff began teaching others guitar lessons at 21 years old and has had hundreds of his students go on to have successful musical careers themselves. He has performed widely with many other fine musicians and bands in a variety of musical styles over the years.
