      Performance Experience: Professional Pit Musician for over 12 Years across NY state (playing Reed, 1, 2, 3 books ranging across multiple woodwind instruments and Piano books), Current Alto Saxophonist in the Rotterdam Community Jazz Band, District Pianist for Lansingburgh Central School District, Percussionist in the SCCC Wind Ensemble in 2022, Alto 1/2 Player for Weapons of Jazz Destruction Group from 2014-2017, Performed locally in the Suffoulk County region at the Diliberto Winery from 2011-2014 on piano.
      Teaching Experience: Taught 6-8th Grade Band at the Schenectady City School District from 2018 - 2020, and currently work as the 4-6th Grade Band Director at the Lansingburgh Central School District. At Lansingburgh, I teach all band lessons ranging in woodwind, brass, and percussion as well as piano. I prepare students for local performances as well as provide an enriched classroom utlizing Culturally Responsive Teaching as well as Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy and other theories/philosophies promoting equity.
      Teaching Philosophy: My teaching philosophy aligns very similarly to my doctoral thesis I am currently working on, which is the implementation of Equity practices, Transformative Philosophy and Culturally Responsive Teaching in Instrumental Music Education settings. Band (and in general music) classes are an unique enviorment that should promote equity, respect, bravery to make mistakes, acceptance, and celebration of copious cultures, voices, and identities, due to its already inclusive and inviting nature.

      Get to know Ms. J Sisti

      Ms. Sisti is Master Music Teacher here at Music and Arts! She is a 6th year Band Director, with experience teaching pull-out private and group lessons to all woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists in the Schenectady City (2018-2020) and Lansingburgh (2020 - Present) School districts. She has attained a Bachelors (2018) and Masters in Music Education (2022) at SUNY Fredonia, and is currently working on her Doctorate in Education at SUNY Buffalo! She is also a community theatre actress, professional pit musician, and music director for community theatre productions across the Capitol Region! Her recent accolades include playing Jenny in SLOC's 2023 production of "It Shoulda Been You", being apart of SLOC's 2023 Production of "Matilda" as their main pianist, as well as The Not So Common's Community Theatre production of "Little Shop of Horrors" as their main reed player. She has also dabbled in music direction of copious musicals, and has been performing on piano and alto saxophone since she was 6 years old! Ms. Sisti originally comes from Riverhead NY on Long Island, where she was known for being a local pianist, and pit musician across the Suffoulk County area. For the past 6 years, Ms. Sisti has been able to immerse herself in the rich music communities of the Capitol Region, both as an educator and as a performer. She also recently performed this past summer in the Gloversville and Rotterdam Community Ensembles on Alto Saxophone. Her hobbies include theatre, reading fantasy novels, video games, and anime! She looks forward to working with all students who walk through the doors of Music and Arts!
