Get to know Peyton Johnson
Trumpet performer, educator, and clinician Peyton Johnson has enjoyed a fruitful career in many genre’s for the past decade.
Peyton was born and raised in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and began learning the trumpet at the age of 11. He then went on to attend the prestigious South Carolina Governor’s School For the Arts and Humanities where he studied with Dr. Gary Malvern of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and Furman University.
He completed his undergraduate studies at the Eastman School of Music studying with James Thompson, retired principal trumpet of the Montreal and Atlanta Symphonies.During his time at The Eastman School of Music, he performed with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Wind Orchestra, and the Eastman New Jazz Ensemble which was awarded two different DownBeat awards for Outstanding College Performance: Large Jazz Ensemble.
He also attended the Eastern Music Festival in the summer of 2016 collaborating with Maestro Gerard Schwarz. Peyton can also be heard on professional recordings with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Eastman Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra.
After completing his Master’s Degree he plans on pursuing a performing fellowship or beginning his Doctorate in Trumpet Performance. He plans to be a Trumpet and Brass educator at the college level while maintaining an active performing career in as many musical genres as possible!
