About Richard

John Orr
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Wayne, PA
Speaks: English
Instructs: Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone
Education: B.S. Drexel University
Performance Experience: Have played with many groups in over forty years of performing. All kinds of music including jazz, classical, blues, rock, reggae, salsa, dixieland, and klezmer. recently playing with local groups Philly Gumbo and The Wild Bohemians.
Teaching Experience: 35 year private lessons. Also taught middle school band at several schools in Cape May and Wildwood. Taught woodwind ensembles at Cardinal Dougherty.
Teaching Philosophy: There are many things that I will emphasize with my students, such as time, rhythm, tone, and phrasing. To that end I like to include many duets into the lessons, which builds strong controlled independent players. With my jazz students it is important to go through all the fundamental exercises on scales and chords, while also having fun working on actual jazz tunes. But ultimately, all of the usual building blocks aside, I want my students to love music as much as I do.
