Education: Having studied at both Tarrant County College and Texas Wesleyan University, John is trained in both the classical and jazz schools of theory and performance. Being a composer, John has also had his music performed with several ensembles in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. John is also interested in music history, and regularly studies baroque music performance, even playing and performing on baroque flute.
Performance Experience: Experienced in flute, saxophone, clarinet, oboe and cello, John has performed in numerous styles across several different ensemble settings from concert halls to small venues. When it comes to jazz, John is most interested in fun and bebop, and regularly improvs when performing with a group. In addition to jazz, John has also performed in both orchestral and wind ensemble settings.
Teaching Experience: John has taught individual private lessons since 2020 to a large array of students across different skill levels.
Teaching Philosophy: John believes in having fun while showing students the unique means by which one can express themselves through music. Music, to John, is another language by which one can communicate, a language that's universal in how it transcends cultures and languages. John also believes that music is something to be enjoyed first and foremost, and that a love of music should be the main guiding principle by which music is taught.

A native Texan, John Ruiz was exposed to music from an early age by his mother, who regularly sang around the house. It was that initial exposure that would inspire him to pursue music after taking his mother's old flute to follow in her footsteps.
