About Joe Ferreira
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Houston, TX
Education: Joe began his drum studies at age 12 with John Mariano in Enfield, Connecticut. While in high school, Joe studied tympani with Gene Bozzi (tympanist with The Hartford Symphony) at Julius Hartt School of Music and drum set with Art Perretta at the Hartford Conservatory of Music. Joe attended The American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois where he studied marimba with James Dutton, drumset with Jack Mouse and Thurman Barker, and Jazz Studies with pianist Willie Pickens.
Performance Experience: Joe has played with Bunky Green, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Dick Oates, Steve Turre', Bob Hope, and The San Antonio Symphony. He has been a featured artist at The Texas Jazz Festival, TMEA Convention, Taste of New Orleans Jazz Festival, and the Pegasus Jazz Festival in Salsburg, Austria.
Teaching Experience: Joe has taught privately throughout his career as a drummer/percussionist, with his students consistently receiving Excellent ratings at Solo and Ensemble contests. Joe's high school drumlines have performed and competed throughout the U.S. and Europe. Honors have included a Texas State 5A Marching Band Championship, and an MBA Grand National Championship. Joe also spent time as percussion instruction for the Sampoerna Marching Band in Surabya. Indonesia.
Teaching Philosophy: Each student is different in terms of their skill level, age, and reason for seeking out a private instructor. Understanding what their goals are will determine the path we will take to craft a program that will allow them to meet that goal.

Joe brings years of experience in all areas of drums and percussion, including drum set, mallet percussion (marimba, vibes, xylophone) and electronic percussion. Joe stays busy as a freelance drummer and private lesson teacher in Houston.
