Teaching Philosophy: I believe access to music and art is a human right. I teach lessons to all ages in many environments with this ideology at the front of my mind. Learning an instrument requires diligence, accountability, and detail-oriented focus, but it should also bring JOY. I hope to instill in my students the belief they can accomplish anything they set their mind to, and dedicate myself to providing all the resources I know to help achieve their goals.

      Get to know Kat Lopes

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia, starting flute when I was in 5th grade. I graduated from Herndon HS and pursued a bachelor's and masters degree in flute and woodwinds, taking me all the way to New York City. I spent several years in NYC playing in broadway pit orchestras, chamber ensembles, teaching students of all ages, and working as a professional music librarian as well.  I offer lessons in Flute and piccolo, clarinets, and saxophones. I can be found around NoVA working with many marching bands and concert bands throughout the year. Outside of teaching and performing, I'm an avid softball player, powerlifter, and World of Warcraft enjoyer.
