Keith Carpenter
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Muskego, WI
Speaks: English
Instructs: Guitar
Education: DM Northwestern University
MM University of Cincinnati
BM Rice University
Diploma Conservatoire Americaine, Fontainbleu (FR)
Performance Experience: I've spent most of my career as a composer, having pieces commissioned and performed by ensembles from around the globe. As a guitarist my performances have been principally in theater productions and jazz improv.
Teaching Experience: Music instructor/lecturer since 1992. Areas of expertise: guitar, composition, music theory
Teaching Philosophy: Have fun! Too many times have I heard students complain about how boring their music classes have been. I firmly believe that if music is boring to you, someone needs to make it come alive for you. With children, I insist that they learn not just how to play, but to also read music and understand the fundamentals of music making in general, not just on the guitar. For adults, you determine where YOU want to go.
Get to know Keith Carpenter
I'm a guitarist and composer who has written a bunch of music over the years for different ensembles. From solo piano and guitar works to symphony orchestra, I've probably written it. As a guitarist I have worked in theater and improv.
In addition to writing and playing, I am a senior lecturer in music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Waukesha.
Works of mine have been recorded on the Raven, Capstone and Innova record labels.
I am currently writing a set of Bagatelles for violin and piano and my second saxophone quartet.
