Performance Experience: As an orchestral musician, Kurt has performed with the Space Coast, Asheville, Westerville, and Newark-Granville Symphonies as well as the Norman Philharmonic. Kurt currently performs throughout the country with the 208th Army Band.

Get to know Kurt Phelps
Dr. Kurt Phelps is a freelance trumpeter and educator. Kurt received his DMA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While at UNCG, he served as a graduate assistant where he taught graduates and undergraduates, trumpet ensemble, and coached a student brass quintet. Alongside those duties, he was a member of the Graduate Brass Quintet and has taken part in educational concerts across the Greensboro community.
Kurt also serves the nation through music. He is a soldier in the 208th Army Band stationed in Concord, NC. He has had the pleasure of performing in various military, veteran, and civilian functions throughout the United States.
Kurt is a native Floridian and has performed as a marching toy soldier at the Magic Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World. He also performed as the first trumpet for the Penguin Brass Quintet at SeaWorld Orlando. Kurt was also a founding member of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra and the Space Coast Oratorio Society.
Kurt has performed internationally as well. In 2011, he traveled to Melk, Austria to perform in the Schagerl Brass Festival alongside Europe's most accomplished brass players.
Dedicated to music education, Kurt has been a guest clinician for middle and high schools in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. He was on faculty at the Music Academy of North Carolina where he teaches brass. Through Lyceum, a partnership with Guilford County Schools, Kurt teaches private and group lessons and sectionals at various Title I schools throughout the district.
