Performance Experience: Laura is an active performer, as well as a teacher. Laura played with the Blue Lake Festival Orchestra during the 2018 season. In October 2019, Laura performed the music of Dinos Constantinides with the KU Chamber Players in Carnegie Weill Hall and can be heard in the same ensemble on Centaur Records playing Constantinides’ works, which will be released soon. Laura has also performed chamber music at the Emerald Coast Chamber Music Festival and the Kutztown University Music Festival.
Teaching Experience: Laura has extensive experience teaching strings and piano both in the K-12 schools and in private lessons. She currently teaches middle school orchestra in PG County, but has also taught elementary and high school strings as well as general music. Additionally, Laura taught as a member of the Inaugural Cohort of the KU College of Education's Professional Development School, focusing in the Danielson Framework for Education. Laura has taught cello privately for over 6 years.
Teaching Philosophy: Lessons will focus on the development of skill in playing the cello or piano; not just learning the concepts of the music but putting them into action. With a strong fundamental background (scales, etudes, exercises, and repertoire), students will be able to develop their own voice through melodies and harmonies and learn to express themselves in a thoughtful way. Students will get comfortable with a wide variety of styles and eras of music, as a well-rounded musician is a well-rounded person.
