About Leon Zakian

Education: Graduate of Manhattan School of Music & NYU

Performance Experience: I have performed with several bands and orchestras in the area, and I had my own band, Eternity, which performed my own compositions at colleges in New Jersey and New York in the 80’s and 90’s. I have done many solo performances on flute and clarinet, in schools, concert halls, and in nursing homes.

Teaching Experience: since 1982

Teaching Philosophy: I try to gear the lesson to the student, working on fundamentals with everyone, but aiming to steer the lessons toward what I feel the student wants from music. I emphasize the importance of a consistent practice schedule, and explain that quality is more important than the amount of minutes spent. I always try to end the lesson on something positive.
