      Performance Experience: I have performed with several bands and orchestras in the area, and I had my own band, Eternity, which performed my own compositions at colleges in New Jersey and New York in the 80’s and 90’s. I have done many solo performances on flute and clarinet, in schools, concert halls, and in nursing homes.
      Teaching Experience: since 1982
      Teaching Philosophy: I try to gear the lesson to the student, working on fundamentals with everyone, but aiming to steer the lessons toward what I feel the student wants from music. I emphasize the importance of a consistent practice schedule, and explain that quality is more important than the amount of minutes spent. I always try to end the lesson on something positive.

      Get to know Leon Zakian

      Leon has degrees in performance from Manhattan School of Music and Montclair State University. He also has a Masters Degree in Music Technology from New York University. He has been teaching in the area for over 35 years, in addition to performing with many bands and orchestras. Leon teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Lessons are personalized to the student, and he will be happy to teach classical music or jazz to all ages of students.
