With degrees in Music Education and teaching in public schools for over a decade, my focus has long been teaching rather than performing, but performing is where things began. I began playing piano at age seven and harp at age fourteen. I played a variety of other instruments throughout school and college and sang a bit as well. I began college with piano as my principal instrument and soon switched to harp. At this time, I also started study of the other orchestral string instruments – violin, viola, cello, and bass – in preparation for teaching and conducting school orchestras. I later took a methods course concentrating on elementary general music and became fascinated with the possibilities in that field. In my career as a music teacher, I specialized in elementary general music and beginning strings, continuing coursework and professional development in those areas while teaching. I am most experienced working with beginning level students, in particular elementary-aged students, based on my years in the public schools. I am excited to bring music to the forefront for piano students and strings students of all ages!
