About Marcelo Alcazar
Get to know Marcelo Alcazar
Music was always playing in Marcelo's house while growing up, from his parent's hippy Folk-Rock of the Mamas & Papas to the Funky/Disco grooves of the Bee
Gees, mixed in with other exotic sounds of Latin American music.
A multi-instrumentalist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and raised in Colorado, Marcelo started performing at the age of 11 doing weekly Thursday night engagements with his uncle’s South American folkloric group.
Pursuing music studies in the 6th grade as a
drummer/percussionist, he later became active in Junior and High School
Concert/Marching bands as a snare drummer in the drum line, and later as a
bassist and guitarist in Jazz Ensembles, participating in and winning state-wide
music competitions with other schools in the Midwest.
Later as a dedicated guitarist, he became influenced by Blues
Rock of the 70’s, Progressive Metal and Jazz Fusion but always with a strong
connection to the nylon and steel-string acoustic guitar.
In 1990 while living in the SF Bay Area, he moved to Los
Angeles to attend Musician’s Institute College of Music (GIT) in Hollywood to study music composition and performance full time. He was exposed to a variety of
music styles while studying with world class players such as Fusion guitar master Scott
Henderson, renowned Jazz guitarist Norman Brown, Rock bass legend Tim Bogert
(Jeff Beck, Vanilla Fudge, Cactus), master guitar educators Keith Wyatt, Sid Jacobs, Dan
Gilbert and Ross Bolton to name a few.
