Education: BA in Music from Principia College, MM in Flute Performance from UMKC, Suzuki Flute Certified - Book 1 and 2, Kodaly Certified Educator
Performance Experience: Current Principal Flutist of the St. Louis Philharmonic and Gateway Festival Orchestra. Substitute performer with the Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis. Former member of the Compton Heights Concert Band. Gigging musician throughout the St. Louis area on flute, piccolo, clarinet, and saxophone. I have performed on all woodwind instruments in approximately 30 musicals.
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching private lessons for 25 years. I have also been a band director, choir director, and general music teacher. My experience has spanned ages 2 through adult. I have also been a college professor, teaching musicianship classes, woodwind techniques, and coaching small woodwind ensembles. I have many years of experience working with soloists and ensembles in preparing for Solo/Ensemble festivals at local and state levels.
Teaching Philosophy: My philosophy of teaching is based on the idea that each individual is already a musician. I am there to bring out each one's unique qualities as a musician and individual. Lessons are catered to each student's needs and desires. While most lessons include warmups, scales, etudes, and solos, if that does not fit a student's, we adapt to find what works best for them. Learning music that interests, excites, and inspires is my goal for each student.
