Speaks:

Instructs:
Clarinet, Oboe, Saxophone
Education:
B.A. in Music from Wesleyan University
Performance Experience:
Marissa has performed in a number of professional, educational, and community ensembles on oboe/English horn, alto/tenor/baritone saxophone, clarinet, and piccolo/flute. She most recently doubled, focusing on oboe, in seven shows with the College Light Opera Company in West Falmouth, MA. Currently, she plays with two community bands: the Pineland Symphonic Band (alto saxophone) and the New Egypt Town Band (clarinet, oboe, and piccolo).
Teaching Experience:
While she has some experience instructing early beginners in high school, Marissa's primary teaching experience comes from reviving and directing Wesleyan University's Cardinal Players Pep Band. Over the course of three years, she regrew the band and helped all of the musicians grow confident in a small ensemble with no room to hide.
Teaching Philosophy:
In order to develop your technique and musicality, you must learn to be aware of your body scientifically and emotionally--how each little movement or thought will impact your sound. Additionally, it is important to not only read but understand the music you are playing. Marissa believes that bodily awareness, combined with a gradual introduction of music theory concepts, provide a strong foundation for a great player.
