      Get to know Mark Rapson

Hello, my name is Mark Rapson and I’m a violin and viola teacher at Music & Arts.  I’m a native Washingtonian and have had a career with Charles County public schools for 15 years.  I love working with beginning music students and enjoy watching people progress in their musical journey and goals.

I started on violin in fifth grade and continued to play and take private lessons through high school.  By the time I was a senior my passion for music had become my main focus and was accepted to West Virginia University in the violin and composition program and played violin and viola in the WVU Orchestra for four years.  While living in West Virginia I immersed myself in the traditional and folk music culture and played violin, fiddle, and mandolin in several folk, bluegrass, and traditional Irish groups.  After completing my BA in music I returned to the DMV area and have been teaching music privately for over twenty years. I’ve also recorded as a session performer, been a member of several community classical ensembles, and played in informal groups and bands of various musical genres.
