About Michael Mccormack

Get to know Michael Mccormack
My earliest memories of an interest in music all stem from watching my father and his band practice in the basement of my childhood home. I had wanted to imitate my dad, so I started on a snare drum, determined to be a drummer. Though for the most part I stayed a mere observer, time passed and so did my interest in practicing music.
Then when I was in middle school, my friend's garage band always let me hangout while they practiced. One day they needed a hand with a simple song they were learning, and threw me a guitar to play a couple simple notes on. Before long, my friend let me borrow his spare guitar and I was off to playing and practicing daily. From that point on I was hooked, the drums never scratched the itch for self expression in the same way making sounds on a guitar did. 24 years later and I'm still learning.
Along the way I've played in a couple bands, opened for Ralph Stanley (aka. The Man of Constant Sorrow) on the stage of The Boulder Theater, have picked up different instruments with adjacent practicality (Bass and Mandolin) and still am as hungry as ever to get better and share my passion. These days I am really into song structure, melodies, music theory, soloing and composing/recording my own material...all while getting better at doing covers. You may find me out on the streets busking for attention (and hopefully a dime or two) and playing on some local stages/bars.
My main goal is to be a musician who can share what he hears in his head, and pass on whatever gifts I have to other people. Music helps make the world a better place and the more musicians in it, the better planet we all live on. Come learn from me!
