About Mirna Cabrera

Mirna Y. Cabrera is the music director at Dowdell Magnet Middle School in Tampa, FL, where she directs all choral ensembles. A native of Holguín, Cuba, Dr. Cabrera has taught piano and vocal music for all ages and levels for many years, including choirs and instrumental chamber ensembles, community and church groups. She holds a teaching certificate from the state of Texas and is a certified music educator specialized in the Kodály philosophy, trained in both the U.S. and Hungary. Prior to her appointment at Dowdell MMS, Dr. Cabrera served as the music instructor at Mid-Plains Community College in McCook, Nebraska, Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS, and one of the choral conductors at the University of Kansas. Dr. Cabrera earned her Bachelor of Music Education (piano emphasis) from Loma Linda University, California, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts, with honors, in choral conducting from the University of Kansas.
