Performance Experience: Olivia has performed as a jazz saxophonist in the Washington, DC area for the past 4+ years. With experience in small and large ensembles alike, she appeared alongside DC bassist Max O'Rourke as part of his eponymous quartet from 2024-2025. Olivia also has appeared with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra on an occasional basis since 2023.

Teaching Experience: Olivia has been teaching private saxophone lessons in the Laurel, MD area since 2021, specializing in students aged 8-18.

Teaching Philosophy: Olivia seeks to establish a strong, comfortable foundation for producing a sound with the instrument, so that students feel confidently able to engage with material in their band class, and as an individual. She guides students through four basic fundamentals of saxophone tone (air support/posture, embouchure, tonguing, and fingering). Alongside these basics, she provides input and structure to help students find a routine that works for their learning style.

Olivia Stroud is a saxophonist, composer, and music educator from Laurel, MD. Currently studying jazz performance under Dr. Kyle Coughlin at Howard Community College, she has more than 12 years of playing experience, 4 of which she has been teaching playing technique and improvisational skills. She specializes in instructing students aged 8-18, and can teach classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or both if desired.

In her lessons, she places emphasis on developing a comfortable playing technique through four basic fundamentals of saxophone tone (air support/posture, embouchure, tonguing, and fingering) She encourages her students to set goals that are both reachable and enjoyable, providing guidance for students to engage with music how and where they find the most possible joy.
