Get to know Olivia Stroud
Olivia Stroud is a saxophonist, composer, and music educator from Laurel, MD. Currently studying jazz performance under Dr. Kyle Coughlin at Howard Community College, she has more than 12 years of playing experience, 4 of which she has been teaching playing technique and improvisational skills. She specializes in instructing students aged 8-18, and can teach classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or both if desired.
In her lessons, she places emphasis on developing a comfortable playing technique through four basic fundamentals of saxophone tone (air support/posture, embouchure, tonguing, and fingering) She encourages her students to set goals that are both reachable and enjoyable, providing guidance for students to engage with music how and where they find the most possible joy.
