Teaching Philosophy: I believe that with hard work, you can become skilled at anything you choose including music. But more importantly, passion must come first. One of my goals is to help my students discover music that resonates with them and help build practice routines that compliment those musical interests. This can sometimes mean just refocusing the routine. I feel that everyone learns differently and I am constantly adjusting my approach to ensure that every student can learn in the best way possible.

MUSICAL INTERESTS

I have always loved learning about the guitar and I also love teaching and talking about the guitar with my students. I have found that no matter how long you have been playing, there are always new ways to expand your knowledge and understanding of the instrument. I write songs and produce my own music, so songwriting is often a topic that comes up in many of my lessons.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

I have been performing for a little over 10 years in the Charleston area. I started out playing some small coffee shops when I was a teenager. This soon changed and I began playing much larger venues like The Music Farm and The Royal American. Today my band plays shows in cities throughout the SC region and beyond. Although we haven’t played many shows since the pandemic began, we plan on organizing a tour once things settle down.

SPECIALTIES / GENRES TAUGHT

Some concepts that I specialize in and often talk about in my lessons are composition, scales and scale construction, music theory, vision expansion of the guitar neck, music notation, ear training, and learning songs and solos.

My expertise is in jazz, rock (alternative, indie, heavy, and classic), and pop but I have also had experience playing most other styles.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching guitar for about 7 years, and I have taught ukulele/bass/piano for about 3.
