Location: Hurst, TX
Instructs: Guitar, Piano, Violin
Education: Rhett played the French horn at Tarleton State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2003. After many years of working in finance (along with music and songwriting), Rhett returned to college to study music formally as an adult. He earned an AA in Music from Tarrant County College in 2018, and is currently a senior at The University of Texas at Arlington, where he plans to earn a Bachelor of Music in Composition along with All-Level Education Certification.
Performance Experience: Rhett has played guitar for over 20 years, and piano and violin for 7 years. He has recorded several EP albums, and received radio play in Texas and the UK. He has gigged all over Texas. With one band or another, he has opened for many Texas country acts including Pat Green, Jason Boland and Jack Ingram.
Rhett has performed on piano as well; he was the Director of Music for St. Michael's Church for over four years.
In addition, Rhett currently plays cello in the UTA Symphony Orchestra.
Teaching Experience: Rhett has been teaching guitar privately since 2018, and has taught piano and violin to adults and children since 2019. He currently teaches Music & Guitar class to junior high and high school students at a private academy.
Rhett not only studies music, but how to teach music at UTA. It should be noted that by learning piano, cello and violin as an adult, Rhett is great at solving problems faced by beginners on these challenging instruments.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe that anyone can learn how to play music that they are passionate about. I believe that fundamentals and proper practice techniques are very important, and that they can be fun to learn. Through music, children can learn the value of a job well done, and with music, anyone can learn to express themselves in the most incredible way.
