      Get to know Robert Calva

      Robert Calva began playing guitar in Houston, Texas at the age of 12. Robert has studied music at the University of North Texas and at Musicians Institute. While a student at the Musicians Institute, Robert was given the Outstanding Student of the Year Award for 1991-92. He began teaching at the Musicians Institute in 1993 and taught private guitar and other core classes until 2003. He has performed with Bo Diddley, Tim Bogert, Deacon Jones, Joe Houston, Chevy Chase and countless others. He is the author of two (2) guitar instructional books. Texas Blues Guitar and Blues-Rock soloing for Guitar. Both books are published by Hal Leonard as part of the MI Press series. Robert has been an established teacher and performer in the Texas Gulf Coast area since 2009.
